  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Salt
  • Vanilla

Recipe Notes

  • Storage: Keep any leftovers in a covered container/jar.  It's best eaten within 2 weeks.
  • Freezing?  Yes, this can be frozen.  Make it and let it cool completely. Then, freeze in a freezer safe/covered jar or storage container. Leave about an inch of space in the jar/container to make room for expansion.

Homemade Chocolate Syrup

Yield: approx. 2 cups of syrup

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • dash of salt
  • splash of vanilla

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together water, sugar, salt, and cocoa powder.
  2. Over low to medium heat, whisking constantly, let the mixture come to a boil.
  3. Once it starts to boil, let it boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  4. Let it cool for 15 minutes.
  5. It can be served warm, if desired. The sauce will thicken as it cools.
  6. Keep leftover syrup in a covered container/jar in the refrigerator.
