How to Make (full instructions in recipe card)

  • First,  decide how many different colors/flavors of cookies you want to make. Then, take the gelatin powder of those colors and place the powder in individual bowls, separating by color.
  • Next, make your dough.
  • Once your dough is made, seperate the dough into sections. The amount of sections will depend on how many colors you are making.
  • Take each section and add about a tablespoon (or two) into the dough.  Work the dough gently until the powder is fully mixed in.
  • Once the dough is dyed, pinch off a piece of dough and roll it into a ball.  Roll that ball into the matching gelatin powder, to coat.
  • Next, place the ball of dough onto the prepared baking sheet.  Gently, flatten the ball of dough.
  • Continue with remaining dough, then, bake.

Do I Have to Use "Jell-O" gelatin?

No, this will work with any brand or flavor.  You will need about 16 tablespoons of the powder for the entire batch of cookies.  How much of each flavor, will depend on you.

Storage

Keep any leftover cookies in a sealed container. No need to refrigerate. They are best eaten within a week.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp baking power
  • dash of salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • approx. 16 TBSP of Jell-O powder, any flavor or colors ( I used 3 different colors)

Instructions

  1. If you are using different colors/flavors of Jell-O, separate the dry gelatin powders into different bowls.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a flat rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Set aside.
  4. In a mixing bowl, beat butter with sugar until creamy. Add in egg and beat until fully combined. Add in flour mixture and beat until dough forms.
  5. Separate the dough into sections. This will depend on how many different color gelatins you are using. If you are using just one color, I do recommend dividing the dough in half. It will be easier to work with.
  6. Take each section of dough and add a tablespoon or two of your desired colored gelatin powder. Work the dough gently until the powder is combined and the dough is colored. If you wish to make your dough a brighter color, you can add in a few drops of matching food coloring.
  7. Once the dough is dyed, pinch off a piece and roll into a ball. The ball should be about 1 inch in size. Roll the ball into the matching gelatin powder to coat.
  8. Place it on your prepared baking sheet. Press it down lightly to flatten, just slightly. Continue with remaining dough.
  9. Bake 8-10 minutes or until edges are set. Let the cookies sit on the baking sheet for 5-8 minutes before removing. Then, remove from sheet and cool completely on a wire rack.
