Recipe Notes

  • Pie Crust:  Any brand will work. You want a refrigerated pie crust.  An example for you.  You will be using both pie crusts that come in the package.  You could make your own pie crust, if you wish.  However, give yourself a break and just buy it.  ;)
  • Jam/Jelly: Again, go with your favorite brand and flavor.  You will need about half of cup. If your jam/jelly is a bit on the thicker side, add about a teaspoon of water to it and stir.  This will thin it out a bit.   Yes, homemade will also work!
  • Sprinkles: If you are going to add sprinkles to the top of your pastries, be sure to do it before the icing sets.  They are optional, but, gosh, they are just fun, right?

Cutting Your Pie Crusts

  1. Roll out both pieces of dough flat.
  2. Cut off the edges of each piece, to create a square.
  3. Cut each square into 4 equal size squares.  This will give 8 squares total.

Ditch the box! Homemade toaster pastries are easy to make. They start with premade pie crust and can be filled with any flavors you wish.

Ingredients

For the Pastries:

  • 2 refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1/2 cup your favorite flavored jam or jelly
  • 1 egg + 1 TBSP water (for egg wash)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 TBSP milk
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1.  Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a flat, rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg with 1 tablespoon of water. Set aside.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, unroll both pie crusts and roll them flat with a rolling pin. Using a knife or a pizza cutter, trim off the rounded edges of the circles to form 2 large squares.
  4. Cut each large square into 4 smaller, equal-sized squares, giving you 8 square dough pieces in total.
  5. Spoon about a tablespoon of jam or jelly directly into the middle of 4 of the squares. Keep the filling centered to prevent it from leaking out during baking. Lightly brush the edges of these filled squares with your prepared egg wash.
  6. Top each filled square with a remaining plain square of pie crust. Press the edges down and crimp them tightly with the tines of a fork to seal.
  7. Transfer the assembled pastries to the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops generously with the remaining egg wash. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Let them cool on the sheet for about 15 minutes before adding the glaze.
  8. Whisk the powdered sugar and milk together in a bowl until smooth. Spoon the glaze over the warm pastries. If you are adding sprinkles, shake them on immediately before the icing sets.
