Recipe Notes

  • I recommend using thick bread for french toast. A brioche or Texas toast are great options.  Now, you can use any type of bread for it.  However, the thicker bread will do a better job at absorbing the milk/egg mixture.
  • Whipping Cream: If you don't have any on hand, whole milk will work best.  However, you can use whatever type you have in your kitchen.
  • Storage: Keep any leftovers in a covered container in the refrigerator.  It's best eaten within a week.
  • Freezing: This will freeze great! Let it cool completely, then, store in a freezer safe, covered container or storage bag.  It will stay good for several months.  When you are ready, you can reheat in the microwave or toaster.
  • This recipe will feed about 4 adults.  If desired, it can be doubled very easily.

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream or whole milk
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 6 slices of thick bread
  • butter, for skillet

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, cream (or milk), vanilla and ground cinnamon.
  2. Over medium heat, melt about a tablespoon of butter in the skillet. Dip an entire piece of bread into the mixture. Be sure to coat it completely and gently shake off any excess.
  3. Add the coated bread slice on the skillet. Cook for about 1-2 minutes, then, flip it over and cook the other side for the same amount of time. You want both sides to be browned. Continue with remaining slices.
  4. Serve immediately with syrup, fruit or a dusting of powdered sugar.
